But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:19-20). For illustrative purposes, we could say that there is both a "Bank on Earth" and a "Bank in Heaven." We can make deposits in either bank. The "Bank on Earth" accepts and keeps our money. Our money will stay in this bank until we withdraw it or it's taken away at death. The "Bank in Heaven" receives our good deeds and works done in faith. With the "Bank in Heaven," we are investing for eternity. Through faith, God empowers us to store up treasures in heaven.
Community Table March 17 ~ volunteers & milk neededWe still need 2-3 gallons of milk Saturday, March 17th, help is needed between 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with 2 shifts to choose from. You can sign up to stay for both shifts, or choose the one that works best for you. In-person service changes the number of people needed to commit to the service date; ideally 6 to 8 people for each shift. Interacting directly with people deepens the outreach experience and makes it more meaningful for both the person being served and the service provider. • 1st shift (9 am to 11:30 am) will prepare meals. (2 volunteers) Call the office (715.835.3734) to help with: • Donate plastic of 3 - 6 cases bottles of water or 2 - 3 gallons of milk on our service date. Please click on the button below to review the available slots and sign up. Thank you! Link to The Community Table Volunteer Guidelines ~ Updated June 1st
January Dean's ForumHoly Words: Building Our Sacred Vocabulary Join us in January as Lutheran Pastor and Seminary Professor, Don Wisener, takes us on an exploration of some of the key words Christians use to talk about our faith. Prayer Shawl Sunday and Winter Scarf Collection for Luke 3:11 ProjectThis Sunday, January 22 is Prayer Shawl Sunday. Prayer shawls will be blessed by clergy, and them members and visitors are invited to take a shawl after the service if you know someone in need of comfort and strength, or celebrating a special occasion. Please write the recipient's name in our journal so that we can include them in our prayers. The Prayer Shawl Ministry's love and prayers are woven into each shawl as they are created. We give our shawls as a gift of love and concern for those who need solace, for thanksgiving, or as a blessing of celebration. Luke 3:11 Project Donation: The next Prayer Shawl Ministry meeting is Tuesday, February 21 at 6:00 PM. We are a not only a parish ministry, but also a community ministry. We invite and encourage new members to join us. If you’re unable to attend our monthly meetings you can drop your shawls off in the parish office or we can make arrangements to get them from you. Please join us! Parish Meetings with VestryAs you know, the Vestry and Finance Committee have been working diligently to complete the pledge drive for 2019 and formulate a budget for the coming year. Unfortunately, although overall giving has increased in 2017 & 2018 with our capital campaign, with most of this year's pledges having been received; we find that the amount of income pledged will not cover the operating expenses for the year. In all honesty, this is not a new problem. It is one that that Cathedral has faced for many years, but we are now at a crossroads having to decide on how to proceed to find the most viable way to continue ministry at the Cathedral. There are options to be considered and, to that end, we are postponing the Annual Meeting by 2 weeks in order to hold two meetings for you to come and meet with the Vestry to discuss the future of Christ Church Cathedral. The final meeting with the Vestry will be held this Sunday February 3rd following the 10:00 service. The Annual Meeting will now be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019 after the 10:00 service. Your input and ideas are essential as to how we move forward. This is a solvable problem, but one that we need to work on together. The Vestry cannot, nor should we, make these decisions without your help. Please make every effort to attend one or both of the upcoming meetings and to attend the Annual Meeting. Come with questions, ideas, an open mind and an open heart so that we may truly listen to each other and the Spirit as we seek His guidance and direction.
